Talitha Cumi
Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” Mark 5:41
What is it in your life you’ve always wanted to do but just haven’t done it (yet)? Maybe it’s getting a license or certificate of some sort. Perhaps it’s learning how to dance, sing, paint, take photographs. Could it be scheduling an appointment with a therapist? Or traveling to a city you’ve always wanted to experience? I don’t know what that is for you, but what I do know is it’s been placed in your heart on purpose and shouldn’t be ignored. Many times we wander around this earth searching for a sense of purpose when all along our purpose is right under our nose. Literally! Your heart holds that “thing” you’ve always wanted to do and rests there for a reason bigger than you can imagine. What you’re reading now is something I’ve put off with excuses out the wazoo. “I don’t know enough scripture. I simply don’t have what it takes to write a devotional. I have nothing to say. No one will read it”. I hear those lies, and more, very loudly. If you can relate, chances are the enemy is trying to stop you from using your gift as well. He knows that your purpose unlocks transformational Holy Spirit power for you and those around you. Your “thing” will point right back to the one who placed it inside you! You were created to do powerful kingdom building things.
I sat last night overwhelmed by my thoughts in regards to a recent medical condition, two solid thyroid nodules, which is causing swelling, pain, and scary symptoms. As I read Mark 5:41 I related to and connected with the grieving parents. I have been grieving things that haven’t happened to me, like death! I have become so crippled by the what ifs and unknowns of my issue and spiraled out over “what will happen if I die”. Jesus asked them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping?” What a great question to ask myself, and for you to ask yourself. Are you too busy grieving the loss of your talent or purpose or something you’ve always wanted to do as a result of your choice to not move forward confidently in it? Instead of making fun of their emotions and lack of faith, Jesus walks into the situation gently and lovingly. He takes their dead little girl by the hand and simply says, ““Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” . This is for you, oh daughter of the King!! He is looking into your eyes and marvels over his precious talented beautiful little girl filled with dreams and passions. Jesus has extended his hand, are you willing to hold it and be guided by it? It’s loud and clear, “arise”! It’s time to rise up, talitha cumi! We are not dead, your purpose is not dead, he has revived us and we are alive! The living God has unleashed his Holy Spirit upon us. Trust that. “Do not fear, only believe.” Mark 5: 36
